Details

The standard-height gate, without the usual compromises.

Not every doorway needs a 43-inch gate. For a baby who isn't climbing yet, 30 inches does the job — and it lets you gate three rooms for the price of one tall gate.

What you get

  • The everyday height, done properly — 30 inches is right for most doorways and for babies who aren't climbing yet. It fits standard openings without extensions and keeps the price down for the three or four gates most homes need.
  • No drilling, no marks on the frame — Hand-tightened pressure bolts with rubber pads grip the doorframe and come off clean. Wall cups included if you want it fixed at the top of stairs.
  • Auto-close under 90 degrees — Walk through and it shuts and latches behind you. Push it past 90 degrees and it stays open while you carry things through.
  • Two-step lock — Button plus squeeze, at the same time. One-handed for an adult, effectively impossible for a toddler.
  • ASTM / EN tested, factory direct — Certified safety testing, and built in the same factory that sells it to you — which is why it costs what it does.

Which height should you buy?

Take 30 inches if your child is under about 18 months and not climbing — it's the right gate for hallways and room doors. Take the 43-inch gate if your toddler climbs, if you have a dog that clears a low gate, or for any position at the top of stairs.

Installing it

  1. Place the gate level in the opening with bolts loose.
  2. Hand-tighten the four pressure bolts until the gate resists a firm push.
  3. For stair tops, screw in the wall cups and re-tension the gate into them.
  4. Test the two-step lock before relying on it.
